- Processor (CPU) (x1) : Budget Wolfdale - 45 nm - 2.53 Ghz Can easily be overclocked to past 3.0 Ghz on air, given the die shrink and the high speed low latency RAM. - $129.99
- Memory (RAM) (x1) : 2 Gb of budget RAM. Sweet spot for XP, and can handle Vista. - $37.99
- Video Card (x1) : 9800 GTX. Pride of this system. Nvidia recently released Physx drivers for this baby - CPU marks jump up a couple thousand points. Prepare to run Crysis on very nice settings with this baby. - $199.99
- Hard Drive (x1) : 160 Gb is plenty for a budget build gaming machine. It\’s SATA2, so it\’s fast, and if you ever get another you can throw it in RAID. - $41.99
- Optical Drive (x1) : Cheap optical drive. I\’ve had one of these for a year and a half, and it serves its purpose. - $16.99
- Motherboard : Micro-Atx board. You\’ll find that out of the box support is difficult to find for 45 nm processors (if you\’re on a budget). This has it. Always check that. - $44.99
- Case : Cheap case, decent power supply that can handle the 9800 GTX. Has cooling. - $25.99
- Total Price for this build : $497.93
My comments about my computer:
This baby takes advantage of the G92 chip to deliver some killer performance. The 45 nm processor is one of the cheaper ones, as it can easily be overclocked to the speeds of the more expensive models on air cooling, thanks to the incredible efficiency of the Penryn. Plus, the recent Physx drivers for the video card make it even more attractive. I know from a friend with an 8800 GTX that this system will be able to handle Crysis very well, and that means any game you throw at it will be eaten up.
Also, if you don\’t vote positively for this, I will take my anger out on cute, innocent kittens across the world.

The biggest problem I see is that the case has a PSU but it’s not 20+4 pin, it’s only 20.
Damn, didn’t notice that. Hate going with PSUs in cases…I’ll fix it in a second.

Linkworld 313G-C2628(U) Black/ Silver Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 430W Power Supply
20+4 Pin. Recommendation to anybody building this system: get a separate case and power supply. Spend the extra 20 bucks.
Nice build, I’m frankly amazed that you found a way to budget it out to get such a nice gpu.
Yeah, it took a lot of micro-management learned from years of RTS playing
Plus I’m a college student and automatically poor, so I have my ways.
What’s with everybody skimping on the Case/PSU? These rigs are all going to die! And this mobo’s just a joke. Not to mention that if you’re spending $200 on the GPU go with the ATI 4850, it outperforms the 9800gtx+ in everything. Also, there is no excuse not getting 800mhz ram, it costs just as much as 667.
