My comments about my computer:
Disk I/O is the slowest part of your system, so throw a 3-disk dual-core RAID server on your gigabit network to offload and accelerate your filesystem access, as well as consolidate and share your media library. This system ideally would run Debian Linux, allowing you to partition the drives into a fault-tolerant 3-disk RAID5 volume up to 1.5TB, a RAID0 volume up to 2.2TB, or a combination in-between. Also has graphics and audio ports to act as a media center, and a DVD+RW to rip and burn CDs/DVDs & data backups.System has room to comfortably double disk capacity with up to 3 more drives (allowing RAID10 and other performance configurations), add memory, an x16 GPU, and double the CPU cores with a quad-core Phenom.
